Continue to the importance of sex education in preventing social ills...

Do all of you agree with this statement-human are curious animals? I'm sure all of you will be agree with it that humans are curious animals especially during the teenage time that is when they will experience the changes of their body. However, they don't have other sources to get the information about 'sex' except from peer pressure and the media. Therefore, they will just learn and do like what the media showed. But, the reality is some elements of the mass media - television, radio, magazines - are ill-informed and this is also one of the reason why social ills are more serious nowadays. Thus, sex education play an important role here that they will provide the right information to the teenages.

Sex education also educate the child on the importance of protection as part of safe sex routine. Through this, they will know what they should do and also what they should not do in order to protect themselves. This may serve a higher purpose of preventing sexually transmitted infections. Moreover, they will also learn to make decisions that respect themselves and others by taking account the possible consequences. For instance, youngsters will be more matured, responsible and social ills can also be reduced. Furthermore, research had shown that children that are subjected to sex education are more apparent to practice safer sex.

The above is another importance of sex education in preventing social ills. Thus, if you want to share any information or opinion with me, please leave a comment to me.

Why is sex education important?

After know about the meaning of sex education, i'm sure all of you will agree with me that there are many importance of sex education. One of them is sex education provide youths with information they need to understand like the changes of their body and the reproductive process. This can let them more understand about their humanity, reproductive rights and developmental changes such as puberty, menopause, aging. Once they have the knowledge about it, they will realised that the change they are experiencing or would experience is indeed normal. For example, girls would not get shocked, panic and afraid at their first menstruation once they already had the knowledge about it.

Besides that, through sex education, young people can also learn to appreciate and recognize their own sex. They will know that their bodies just as good, beautiful and special as other God's perfect creations. This can prevent social ills from happen since they will appreciate and respect their own body and also the others.

Hence, it is very important to implement sex education. I will write the other importance of sex education in preventing social ills in the following posts. If anyone of you have any opinion or suggestion, you may leave a comment to me so that we can discuss more about it.

What is sex education ?

Love and sex is blooming among the youth, mainly because of early physical and psychological development, and the influences of foreign cultures and modern lifestyles. Adapted from Metro Prima Ahad, a 14 year old student known as " Andy " admitted for paying RM5 " for a round of sex " with a senior at school, adding they would either " do it " at his or her home. Nowadays sex is very normal among youth.

So sex education should be taught in school, partly because it is a means by which they are helped to protect themselves against abuse, exploitation, unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases and HIV/AIDS.

What is sex education is really about ? Sex education, which is sometimes called sexuality education and relationships education, is the process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and beliefs about sex, sexual identity, relationships and intimacy. Sex education is also about developing young people's skills so that they make informed choices about their behaviour, and feel confident and competend about acting on these choices. It is widely accepted that young people have a right to sex education.

I would be pleased if someone can drop me a comment after reading my post.

#2 What is sex education?

What will come across your mind when we mention about "sex education" ? Will you think of something that make you feel discomfort? Usually, when we ask people about their opinion toward "sex education", firstly, they will give us kindly of discomfort facial expression. Maybe this is due to the culture and environment factor that we have in eastern countries.

Let's talk about sex education seriously! Actually sex education not only about sex alone, but it is a kind of education that educate people about human sexual anatomy, sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse, reproductive health, emotional relations, reproductive rights and responsibilities, contraception, and also other aspect of human sexual behaviors. Besides, it also include family planning, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), ways to avoid STIs and also birth control methods.

Basically, sex education is being taught formally and informally. In most countries nowadays, part of the sex education are being taught as a full course within the curriculum in junior high school or high school. Usually, it is just a part of the biology class, health class, economic class or physical education class. That makes sex education even harder to be explored by the new generations. Sex education may be taught informally, people can gain information through their conversation with friends, family, or even teachers. They can also get the information the media, which include magazine advice columnist, sex self-help author or even through the web site related to sex education.

Sad to say that Malaysia's sex education is basically focus on the biological side which is more to biology knowledge. We are not being expose to a deeper level of sex education. Maybe this is due to our culture and environment factors again. We are simply touching the surface of sex education while we ourselves thought that we know what sex education really about.

Last time, I conducted a survey among students in Malacca Matriculation College, the results came back to what I mentioned just now. Now the problem is we thought we know about sex education yet we do not know. The main point here is that we need to make a change, at lease changing our attitude toward sex education.

I hope that after reading this post, you'll know more about sex education, at lease knowing that sex education is not only about sex. If you want to know more, please leave your comment and I'll post more information about sex education.
